I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, where I began studying classical voice at age 14 at the Cleveland Music School Settlement. At 17, I was a featured vocalist with a great musician and jazz legend in Cleveland, Hank Geer. I performed at the famed restaurant and jazz club, Sammy's In The Flats.
I also studied with renowned vocal coach, Marietta Richards. Marietta introduced me to musical theater where I began sudying acting with acclaimed professionals from the Cleveland Playhouse: Keith Mackey, Gwen Yarnell and Providence Hollender. I conquered this aspect of my art for fifteen years, starring in several lead roles including Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Rizzo in Grease, and Bianca in Kiss Me Kate.
In the mid 90's I came to Los Angeles on vacation, curious about the jazz scene. Being a big Jack Sheldon fan, I went to the Money Tree in Toluca Lake to see Jack and Ross Tompkins, the greatest duo in jazz today. Jack was most gracious to let me sit in and sing - the experience was fabulous! We talked on the phone before I went back to Cleveland, and I'll never forget what Jack said, "Rosanne, you should be in New York or Los Angeles. Things can happen for you, but you need to relocate." Needless to say, I moved to Los Andeles within months of my visit. Thank you, Jack! I love you.
With my heart back to jazz, I've been fortunate to perform and record with L.A. Jazz Masters Jack Sheldon, Ross Tompkins, Ray Pizzi, Barry Zweig, Ron Anthony and Tony Dumas, and am excited by the release of my new CD: "Hot, Sophisticated, Jazz - NOW!".
